Philadelphia’s world-class cultural institutions are launching an exciting lineup of exhibitions throughout 2026 that promise to engage art lovers, history buffs and contemporary culture aficionados alike.

At the heart of the city’s cultural calendar is A Nation of Artists, a landmark collaboration between the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA) celebrating America’s 250th anniversary. It features over 1,000 works spanning three centuries, exploring diverse American creativity from colonial to contemporary through painting, sculpture and decorative arts. From 12th April to 5th September 2027.

Tying into this year being the 50th anniversary of the first Rocky movie, Rising Up: Rocky and the Making of Monuments is a thought-provoking exhibition at the Philadelphia Museum of Art which explores how monuments—and in particular the iconic Rocky statue—shape culture, memory and public space through contributions from more than 50 artists. The exhibition will run from 25th April to 2nd August.

Pennsylvania Hospital, the country’s first chartered hospital will mark its 275th anniversary by transforming its historic Pine Building into a museum, open to the public in May, 2026. Timed to coincide with America250 celebrations in Philadelphia, the Pennsylvania Hospital Museum links the nation’s first hospital’s rich history with Penn Medicine’s continued leadership in science and medicine. The museum will feature the medical library, surgical amphitheatre, and apothecary, with the eight exhibits showcasing the hospital’s history in behavioural care, women’s health, apothecary innovations, and leadership during times of conflict.

Universal Studios Theme Parks: The Exhibition made its world premiere at The Franklin Institute on 14th February. The immersive exhibition features more than 100 artifacts props, and costumes from attractions like Jurassic World, Super Nintendo World, and Harry Potter, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the design, technology, and science behind the parks. Running until 7th September 2026.

Freedom Dreams will be launching at the Barnes Foundation, an exhibition of powerful works in film, video, and installation by an intergenerational cohort of Black artists interested in exploring history, archives, and cultural memory. The exhibition features works by Arthur Jafa, David Hartt, Garrett Bradley, Ja’Tovia Gary, and Tourmaline that dismantle pervasive narratives around race, gender, and class in American history. The exhibition runs from 12 April to 9 August.

Together, these dynamic exhibitions reaffirm Philadelphia’s reputation as a major art and cultural destination throughout 2026.
